Apex Legends Alter Guide
Who is Alter?
Alter is a Recon legend in Apex Legends whose kit revolves around temporal manipulation and information gathering. Released in Season 22, Alter quickly became a meta pick due to their ability to reposition teams and gather intelligence.
Abilities
Passive — Temporal Awareness
Alter can see the recent footprints of enemies, displayed as glowing trails. This information persists for a short duration and helps track enemy rotations. Incredibly useful for predicting third parties.
Tactical — Phase Rift
Alter opens a rift that allows them and their team to see through walls in a targeted area for a few seconds. This is essentially a localized wallhack that can reveal enemy positions before pushing.
Ultimate — Chrono Shift
Alter creates a time anchor at their current position. After a delay (or when reactivated), Alter and nearby allies are teleported back to the anchor. This is a get-out-of-jail-free card for aggressive plays.
Playstyle Guide
Information Warfare
Alter's kit is all about information. Use Temporal Awareness to track enemy movements. Use Phase Rift before every engagement to know exactly where enemies are positioned. Your team should never be surprised.
The Aggressive Teleport Play
- Set your ultimate anchor in a safe position
- Push aggressively with your team
- If the fight goes badly, reactivate ultimate to teleport everyone back
- This is essentially a free engage/disengage tool
Rotating with Alter
Alter excels in the mid-game when you need to rotate through contested areas. Use Phase Rift to check buildings before entering. Use Temporal Awareness to avoid areas where teams have recently fought.
Best Team Compositions
- Alter + Gibraltar + Bloodhound: Maximum information and protection
- Alter + Octane + Loba: Fast rotations with loot priority
- Alter + Catalyst + Newcastle: Defensive setup with recon capability
Map-Specific Tips
World's Edge
Use Phase Rift to check Fragment buildings before pushing. Chrono Shift is great for third-partying Capitol City fights.
Olympus
The open layout makes Alter's tracking passive incredibly valuable. Use it to avoid open rotations.
Storm Point
Alter excels in the dense jungle areas where footprints are easy to track and Phase Rift covers multiple buildings.
