Why Smokes Matter in CS2

In CS2, smoke grenades are the most impactful utility in the game. A well-placed smoke can cut off an AWP angle, deny a rush, or create a safe plant. With CS2's updated smoke physics (volumetric smokes that interact with geometry), learning the new lineups is essential.

Dust 2 Essential Smokes

T-Side: A Long Cross Smoke

Stand at the corner of long doors, aim at the antenna tip, and jump-throw. This smoke lands perfectly at the cross, blocking CT vision from A site and allowing your team to push long safely.

T-Side: B Doors Smoke

From T spawn, aim at the edge of the building above B tunnels. Running throw. This blocks the B window angle and lets your team enter B site with less crossfire.

CT-Side: Mid-to-B Smoke

From CT mid, throw a smoke into the B tunnels entrance. This delays T-side B takes and gives your rotators time to set up.

Mirage Essential Smokes

T-Side: A Site Smokes (Triple Stack)

Three smokes needed for a clean A execute:

  1. CT smoke (blocks CT spawn rotation)
  2. Jungle smoke (blocks connector/window)
  3. Stairs smoke (blocks stairs peek)

T-Side: B Apartments Smoke

From T ramp, aim at the antenna on the building. Throw to land in front of B apartments entrance. This blocks the bench angle and lets your team flood into B.

Inferno Essential Smokes

T-Side: Arch Smoke

From second mid, aim at the roof tile above arch. This smoke blocks the arch angle, making it safe to push into library area.

T-Side: CT Spawn Smoke (B Site)

From banana, throw a smoke deep into CT spawn. This prevents rotations and lets your team take B site with minimal resistance.

General Tips

  1. Practice in private servers — Use sv_cheats 1 and sv_infinite_ammo 1 to practice lineups
  2. Learn 2-3 smokes per map — Don't try to memorize everything at once
  3. Use the radar — Smokes are most effective when coordinated with teammates
  4. Volumetric smoke changes — CS2 smokes fill spaces differently; some old CSGO lineups don't work anymore
  5. One-way smokes — Learn at least one one-way smoke per map for defensive advantage
